Foundations of Emotion Coaching and rationale for its adaptation in international contexts:
Emotion Coaching practice is informed by interpersonal neurobiology and works ‘with’ rather than ‘against’ human physiological responses to threat and danger. Emotion Coaching accepts the need, and indeed expectation, that to survive, thrive and sustain wellbeing we all have to experience relationships that make us feel seen and safe, soothed and secure. It is through Emotion Coaching practise, practitioners combine Emotion Coaching knowledge with their expertise, to provide practices to support local needs and contexts. This adaption is critical to the sustainability of Emotion Coaching in educational and community settings and why we view Emotion Coaching as an ongoing, lifelong journey for all! Emotion Coaching practice in education and community settings is growing in popularity, not just in the UK but all over the world! More and more of us are finding Emotion Coaching a useful technique to use ‘in the moment’ helping to deescalate emotional incidents, and a relational approach that, through consistent use, supports the developments of self-regulation and problem-solving skills. As a result of commitment and generous sharing of ideas, experiences and expertise between colleagues locally, nationally and internationally, we now have a greater understanding of the relevance and diverse use of Emotion Coaching in educational and community settings

This has led to a growing interest, nationally and internationally in Emotion Coaching and ECUK has spent time discussing the most effective way we can continue to share Emotion Coaching research and training to recognise, respect and support increasingly diverse cultural contexts and local and national needs.

With this in mind, we have created an International Partner Alliance Page for international organisations. These recognised organisations are independent of ECUK however they share our origins, values and interests, and are promoting EC practice around the world. Like us, they are committed to supporting EC practice that is sensitive to and respectful of cultural contexts; is inclusive and reflects the needs of children and adults and promotes shared, local expertise.

ECUK offers support to these international organisation however, this does not imply joint venture, partnership, or principal-agent relationship. Rather, that we share a mutual respect of organisational autonomy, and encourage efforts to promote Emotion Coaching practice to reflect and satisfy the specific needs of country and people. This site provides a virtual space to recognise ongoing connection and support, thus celebrating mutual benefits from our respectful association and communication.
